What is good health to you?

When you think of healthcare, what are some of the first things that come to mind?  Since perceptions of health vary across cultures, countries, and healthcare systems, we were interested to see how healthcare is viewed in Ghana.  During our trip last May, we conducted extensive interviews with community members to better understand how they view various aspects of health.  Using a tool from Wordle.net, we created a representation (seen below) of some of the most common words in responses to the question: "What is good health to you?"

On Monday, February 4, the first African Regional Meeting on Strengthening Health Systems opened in Accra, Ghana.  Representatives of Ghana, Uganda, Cote d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Botswana, Swaziland, Nigeria, and Sudan are participating in the conference with the goal of discussing ways to improve healthcare quality and make patient care more efficient and effective.  Click the link above to read the official press release.
